FAQ

Qatar PDPPL — questions & answers

What is the Qatar Personal Data Privacy Protection Law?
Law No. 13 of 2016 Concerning Personal Data Privacy Protection is Qatar's general data protection law and was the first such law adopted in the GCC. It applies to personal data processed electronically in Qatar and is supplemented by published guidelines.
Does the law cover the Qatar Financial Centre?
No. The Qatar Financial Centre operates its own data protection regime. Organizations present both onshore and in the QFC generally need to consider more than one framework.
How does classification help with Qatari data protection obligations?
Qatar also publishes a national data classification scheme, so classification is familiar ground for many Qatari organizations. Siberson Veriket Data Classification applies configurable levels as metadata and visible markings, giving both the privacy programme and the classification policy the same underlying mechanism.
